Korean Art Show 2011

Galleries Association of Korea is presenting the Korean Art Show again this year in New York City with support from the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. This year’s show is composed of both main and special exhibitions – aiming to be a success as both a key ‘Art Fair’ and an arresting and exciting ‘exhibition’.

Main Show: Thursday, March 3 – Sunday, March 6, 2011

Location: 82 Mercer, between Spring and Broome, Soho, New York, NY

Main Show

Robert Morgan, the well known director and art critic based in New York, will curate 19 galleries and their main artists as part of the special exhibition, ‘Poiesis.’ Influential Korean-Americans of New York, along with Seong Eun Hong, the CEO of the Rainier Group, will form a strong supporting committee of diverse and established collectors to promote enhanced interchange between collectors, viewers and the artists and galleries.

Special Exhibition: Wednesday, March 9 – March 19, 2011 at Korean Cultural Service

(460 Park Ave. 6th Floor New York, NY 10022)

Special Exhibition

Last year’s Korean Art Show was a great success, attracting over 10,000 visitors and clearly established the excellence of Korean contemporary art in the New York art scene. The publisher of ‘Fine Art magazine,’ Jamie Fobes, commented favorably on the flow of energy, and noted that it is rare to see such an innovative art fair these days. This year’s Korean Art Show is expected to have an even larger scale of exhibits from 35 major galleries in Korea. Last year’s Korean Art Show heightened the awareness of Korean contemporary art in New York, and it is expected the Korean Art Show 2011 will continue to establish a solid foothold in the international art scene.

Another goal of the Korean Art Show 2011 is promoting KIAF, now considered one of the major art fairs in Asia. By setting up a public relations center for KIAF2011 in the exhibition space, we aim to promote and increase international recognition of KIAF and the awareness of KIAF 2011 by galleries in New York and around the US.

The Korean Art Show 2011 will be one of New York’s most important exhibitions in March – and one not to be missed!
