Some of the program highlights of MEX I AM festival include:
The screening of the exciting latest film to come from the widely influential Mexico cinema: Buen Día, Ramón by director Jorge Ramirez-Suarez.
It tells the story of Ramón (played by actor Kristyan Ferrer), a young man from a small northern Mexican town who has tried, unsuccessfully, to cross the US border five times. Back home he refuses to become a criminal. Instead, he decides to travel to Germany and contact a friend’s aunt but his plans go awry when he can’t find her. He struggles to survive on the streets, not properly prepared for the harsh weather and carrying practically no money, until he meets Ruth (a German actress Ingeborg Schöner, 80), a retired and lonely woman. Moving beyond language barriers and prejudices, they develop an amazing friendship.
MEX I AM Gala on July 22nd will feature Isaac Hernández, principal dancer of The Royal Ballet of London and his brother Esteban Hernández, promising young star of national and international ballet, who is part of the San Francisco Ballet.
The evening presentation will showcase, as well, one of the recipient of the Plácido Domingo’s scholarship, Mexico’s most prominent young artist award, Mario Rojas, sophomore at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, whom will delight audiences with an opera presentation.
